James Fuller Promoted to Head Coach
NAL Assistant Coach of the Year to Lead Cobras into 2023 & Beyond
GREENSBORO, NC – The Carolina Cobras announce that offensive coordinator James Fuller has officially been promoted to Head Coach. Fuller became the third head coach in Carolina Cobras history and recently served the team as the offensive coordinator in 2022 where the Cobras became the highest scoring NAL team during the regular season. The Cobras had a powerful 5-0 start and finished the regular season with the most victories at 9-5, a playoff victory over the Columbus Lions, being the first team to clinch a playoff spot, as well as the team’s third NAL Championship appearance. The decision came following the departure of head coach Josh Resignalo who served as the team's head coach for the 2021-2022 seasons. During his term Coach Res had an overall record of 13-12 and strengthened local ties within the Greensboro market that will support the team's long term success.
“While it’s never enjoyable to have major staffing changes, I’ve had the honor of working with James Fuller in multiple capacities for many years, the best being in 2018, when Fuller was my Head Coach with the Maine Mammoths. During that time, I was able to really see the many talents that he has. During the 2022 season, his coaching abilities, along with the respect he received from the Cobras players and staff, have allowed me to make this succession decision with ease and comfort. I look forward to him raising the 2023 championship trophy next August!” - Said Majority Owner Rob Storm.
Coach Fuller is a veteran head coach in arena football who recently served as the head coach of the Jacksonville Sharks in 2021 and previously served as the Maine Mammoths head coach. Coach Fuller is a two-time NAL Assistant Coach of the Year earning the titles in 2019 with the Sharks and last season with the Cobras in which he served in coordinator roles to two championship bound teams. Coach Fuller also helped lead the Sharks to a NAL Championship victory over the Carolina Cobras in 2019 as the team’s defensive coordinator. That season, the Sharks led the NAL in all turnover categories and ranked #1 in the fewest points allowed. As a coach, James Fuller has a combined 23-year coaching career between arena football and outdoor football. Coach Fuller also serves as a coach in The Spring League (TSL) in San Antonio, TX. Fuller's arena career includes head coaching positions in the Arena Football League (AFL), NAL, and Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL). In the PIFL, Coach Fuller led the Richmond Raiders to three playoff appearances and a division championship victory. Prior to coaching James Fuller was a NFL defensive back who played for the Philadelphia Eagles and San Diego Chargers. Coach Fuller also had a very successful college career at Portland State.
