Playoff Bound Cobras Take On Another Texas Team
GREENSBORO, NC – The (7-4) Carolina Cobras have clinched a berth in the 2023 NAL Playoffs the Cobras continue their playoff streak as one of the only NAL teams that have made the playoffs in every single season of play including three trips to the NAL Championship and one championship victory in 2018.
Before the Cobras strike in the NAL playoffs the team will return home this Saturday in the Greensboro Coliseum for a regular season match to take on San Antonio Gunslingers (8-2) for Military Appreciation & First Responders Night. Kickoff is set for 7pm and tickets can be purchased online here: https://bit.ly/cobrastixsa the Cobras return from a big win in Texas as they faced the Gunslingers rival the West Texas Warbirds where the Cobras crushed West Texas 66-35 giving the Cobras a two-game win streak going into this weekend. However, this will be a tough matchup for Coach Fuller and crew as the team has yet to defeat the Gunslingers in 2023. The South Texas team has had their hottest season starting the year 5-0. Recently the Gunslingers won three of their last four games and return to action after a bye week.
The last time these two teams played was at the beginning of the season and it was a nail biter with the Cobras slipping in the 41-40 thriller. Now at home the Cobras seek home field advantage in the Snake Pit as they have dominated their home schedule this year with their passionate fan base Cobra Nation winning 4 out 5 home games. Star quarterback Malik Henry, won offensive player of the week after his six touchdown performance in Odessa, TX. The young Cobras leader is having his best season in black & silver recording 186 completions, 2,382 yards, and 43 touchdown passes where he leads the league in all three categories. On defense, the Cobras feature a list of returning talent including defensive back Kenny Veal who is currently tied for first in the NAL with six interceptions this season. Cobras captain, defensive back Mike Green also is having a great season leading the team in tackles with 32 while also making an impact with six pass breakups and four interceptions. He’s also scored two touchdowns on defense for the Cobras this year. On special teams, the Cobras have a familiar name in All-NAL kicker TC Stevens, the veteran kicker continues to put on a show in Greensboro. This season TC is 10/13 in field goals, an impressive 43 total PATs, and 12 deuces, only two shy of his 14 deuce season last year.
