Carolina signs Linebacker /Defensive Lineman Rickey Dowdy

GREENSBORO – Rickey Dowdy (6’1, 260) enters his first season in arena football with the Carolina Cobras in 2018. Dowdy finished his collegiate football campaign the with the Cumberland University, where he played from 2013- 2014. in 2014, Dowdy recorded three interceptions for 81 yards and one touchdown, 44 total tackles, two sacks for 28 yards and five pass breakups. In 2013, he recorded one interception for a gain of 21 yards, 20 total tackles , one sack, three pass breakups, two QB hits and one fumble recovery .Prior to playing for Cumberland, Dowdy played football for the NC State from 2009-2012. In 2012, Dowdy recorded 82 total tackles, 3.5 total sacks, one fumble recovery, four QB hits and two pass breakups.

Dowdy is native of High Point, N.C. and played football at High Point High School, where as a senior linebacker, he recorded 105 tackles, 17 sacks, 10 other tackles for loss and grabbed two interceptions. He also registered 74 tackles, 13 tackles for losses and 12 sacks his junior year, was named all-conference as a junior and senior and named to the All-Atlantic Region class of 2009.
